The Story of Banne

Every child creates a world around them and the father is the hero, a superman. For Banne too her father is the hero of her imaginary world. She visualizes, shapes and colours her world through her father’s eyes and words. A relationship and bonding of a father & daughter is so intense and so strong that probably each member of the family might have limitations, certain boundaries drawn, but when it’s the daughter there are no boundaries, because she breaks all the rules when she is with her father.

This poetry is related to an incident which I overheard, a conversation, but could not see the people due to the boundary walls of the apartment building behind me. In fact, I was taking a walk to meet a friend, the street was calm and peaceful well shaded with huge trees lined beside the road. I sat down on the cement bench enjoying the calmness and the view of people and couple of vehicles passing by now & then, when i heard a female voice scream “Banne, kahan ho thum” (Banne where are you?), a pause, and then again after few seconds the female screams again “Are Banne kahan rah gayi ho thum” (Banne where are you held up) (I have omitted few words purposely) a sweet voice immediately responds “Aayi Maa” (I am coming mother). I could hear the giggling of few voice, a rumbling of foot steps speeding down the stairs. A pause, and then I hear a male voice “Banne beta, chalo jaldi tayyar ho jao der ho rahi hai” (Banne, My child, get ready be quick we are getting delayed) “Main tho kab se thayar hoon Papa” (I am ready so long, Papa). A mischievous response. A smile on my face I got up and walked ahead.

I hope you will love & enjoy reading this short poetry, it’s taken from the anthology of poems “Strings” — a galere of poetry (Galere means a group of people having an attribute in common) Here it is the “galere of poetry with emotion as the string”

The Story of Banne

every child creates a world around,

their father, the first hero.

but for some

the childhood love is deprived,

no bed time stories

no talk of moon and stars

banne’s life was lively

she saw & felt

the world so lovely

through her father’s eyes

loving, cuddled together

life values, epic stories

mamma, why papa

does not smile?

he’s too far banne,

in moonlight, you can’t see him smile.

night was sleepless

days became lonely for banne

mamma, mamma, screamed banne

papa is smiling, papa is smiling, it’s my papa

and they watched the stars until dawn

see, he heard you cry & frown

no, I know the reason of his smile

my tiffin I fed to doggy yesterday,

she licked my fingers, she wagged her tail.
